Several hours trouble shooting a series of problems related to a UEFI “bios” update for a Gigabyte AORUS 870E ICE PRO Motherboard. The Update is for the motherboard REV 1.1 (hardware). The file is to update the UEFI to do the following changes and improvements to the motherboard.
Checksum : 78E1
Update AMD AGESA 1.2.0.3g
Enhance system stability and performance
Enhance memory compatibility
Added support for AI TOP Utility v4.1.1
You can dowload this UEFI update from the following Gigabyte URL: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X870E-AORUS-PRO-ICE-rev-11/support#Support-Bios
After successfully flashing the UEFI, I had no issues.
I rebooted 3 times saying there’s no place like home between each reboot.
Then I enabled EXPO profiles for my RAM in the UEFI and checked the usual suspects for the settings I prefer.
After that I spent a few hours chatting with friends then rebooted.
This is where my trouble began. My Qualcomm 7800 Wifi device built into the motherboard, stopped working.
I updated drivers. I rebooted a myriad of times. I may have forgotten to click my heals together in the first 3 reboots.
I unplugged and replugged the Wifi Antenna. I turned the system completely off and unplugged the power cable.
I even reinstalled linux mint 22.2 to find out if that would yield any useful information or better results than Windows 11 Pro had.
No love.
I took a nap for a few hours.
I came back to the problem fresh and scoured various forums for solutions. Attempted a few of those to no avail.
About 30 minutes ago I turned the system off. I turned off the power supply. I unplugged this system from the outlet. Then I turned the power supply back on while the power cord was NOT connected and turned the system on normally. I was shocked to watch the RGB of my system flash and flicker the normal color patterns at me for 5 seconds, without any electricity. That 1300W MSI MAG PSU sure has some beefy capacitors, YAY.
I turn the system off, turned off the power supply. Plugged the AC cord back in to the surge protector and PSU ends. Clicked the switch to turn on the PSU. Turned the system back on and SCORE! The Qualcomm 7800 WIFI device came back to the living…
It’s ALIVE!
Some days it takes more patience than others… your mileage WILL vary.
